Truly flexible shipping prices can happen using a percentage cost point rather than conditional shipping. There are several cost types in this plugin, including the ‘percentage’ which changes the cost based on the customer’s subtotal. The tutorials below will help explain how you can utilities this cost type.
Standard Percentage Shipping
It is important to note that this percentage cost is based on the subtotal of the shipping package. The subtotal is the cost of products before tax and coupons. This can change under the Additional Settings section of the Table Rate settings page to include taxes and/or coupons.
In this example, the customer simply wishes to charge shipping at a rate of 6% of the order’s subtotal.
Under this configuration, an order with a subtotal of $30 would cost $1.80 to ship and an order of $100 would cost $6 to ship.
Conditional Percentages
Perhaps you would like to offer an incentive to your customers? Combining the percentage cost type with conditions can help lower the cost based on the size of the order. In the example below, the shop owner has decided to decrease the percentage based on the subtotal. Ultimately, the shipping is free if the customer spends enough.
Under this configuration, and order of $30 would cost $1.80 to ship, and an order with a subtotal of $70 would cost $2.10 to ship. If the customer spends $100 or more, shipping is free.
